Maureen Klusza was born in Red Bank, New Jersey. Her father, an artist himself, inspired his daughter’s primitive doodling. In grade school, Maureen drew cartoons for her teachers. In high school, Maureen continued drawing cartoons. She drew cartoons in almost every class. She helped her junior class with fundraising by drawing caricatures for 50 cents each. (She’ll never do it again!) Maureen graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York, with a BFA degree in Illustration. (She also took full advantage of non-required math courses.) After that, she taught Pre-K classes at Maryland School for the Deaf and California School for the Deaf. That was when she started teaching baby sign language to the babies. When she gave birth to Shoshannah who was not deaf and she’s been using flash cards and visual signs to teach sign language to Shoshannah to reduce her temper tantrums while trying to communicate what she needs. Maureen lives in Bay Area, California with her husband, Robin and daughter, Shoshannah.
